The Bahamas
The Bahamas is a country in the Atlantic Ocean made up of more than 700 islands and cays, located southeast of Florida. Only about 30 islands are inhabited. The capital, Nassau, is on New Providence Island and is the main center for government, commerce, and tourism. Most visitors know the Bahamas for beaches, clear water, boating, and snorkeling, but daily life extends well beyond resorts. Many islands are small and community-oriented, with fishing, boating, tourism, and public service as major sources of work.
